Tell us about yourself and your background.

I started my career in manufacturing because I did not like the idea of being trapped in an office doing design work for engineering. I started in the gypsum industry working on plants that made drywall and joint compound. I did capital project management, and department manager roles for production, quality, and maintenance. I transitioned into a project management role at an EPC contractor and have spent 15+ years in various heavy industrial, energy, and renewable projects.

What’s the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

I always sought out the “old timers” at a plant or on a project. They have a lot to teach and usually want to share. I have found this to be a great thing at almost every place I have been.

What aspect of your job do you enjoy the most?

I like that the job and projects change somewhat regularly. It is why I liked construction. I think that had I stayed in manufacturing working at one place for years doing the same thing I would have gone crazy.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

I think that carpentry or woodworking would be a great skill.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

I play golf, but not very well. You would think that since I have played off and on since I was ten, I would be better by now.

What places have you lived in?

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and went to college in Indiana. I moved to Dallas after school because I was tired of the cold and snow. I moved to Abilene, TX and have lived in Florida and Palm Springs, CA. I currently live in Abilene.
