Employee Spotlight – Brandon Banks
Brandon Banks is the Director of Advisory Services at Nexus PMG. He has extensive experience focused on evaluating and developing alternative, renewable, and sustainable infrastructure projects — providing strategic leadership in the circular economy. Brandon holds an MBA from the University of Miami and is a licensed Project Management Professional (PMP). He recently served as the Chairman of the YP Board for Junior Achievement of Greater Miami and he lives in Miami, Florida with his wife and two daughters.
Tell us about yourself and your background.
I was born in Osterholz-Scharmbeck, Germany while my father was on active duty with the US Army. Growing up in a military family, I was able to experience many international cultures and customs across Europe, Latin America, and Asia.
I am bilingual, fluent in English and Spanish, and on occasion when needed I can still hold my own when speaking German and Korean.
People would be surprised if they knew:
I have a love for photography. I currently shoot with a mirrorless Nikon Z 6 ii. We have some pretty cool pictures from different places we have traveled to such as Antelope Canyon, Muir Woods, Venice, the Swiss Alps… and many more to come.
What is your favorite meal?
Cheeseburger and fries. Fun fact: at our wedding reception we had paella for dinner… and believe it or not, we ran out of food! We ended up having to order cheeseburgers for some of our guests… and the groom!
What does leadership mean to you?
Leadership means not asking anyone to do anything that YOU wouldn’t do.
What is your personal motto or mantra?
“100 x -1 = -100”… don’t be the “negative one”
What are your hobbies outside of work?
I am in a basketball league. I can’t fly around like I used to, but I’m still deadly from 3! We have a ’75 Stingray that we enjoy driving on the weekends. We also have a boat down in Key Largo – always a great time in the water with the family.
If you could switch places with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?
If I could switch places with anyone for a day, it would be with my brother, Richie. Richie was born with a condition known as hydrocephalus, and because it was not caught in time, he suffered irreversible brain damage from birth.
Despite his condition, Richie wakes up every morning with a huge smile and joy that serves as a constant reminder of just how blessed we are.
I would love to trade places with him so that he could have the opportunity to speak, to share his ideas, to drive, to have a family of his own… just a moment for him to experience all the things that we often take for granted.
What aspect of your job do you enjoy the most?
As the ole’ saying goes, “There is no ‘I’ in team” – And for that matter, “There is no ‘I’ in Nexus PMG!”
The organization was designed to operate in a collaborative and integrated fashion where the entire team contributes to the overall success of the company. The team framework that we have in place has allowed the company to flourish over the first 10 years of business.
I am proud to be a member of the Nexus PMG Team and excited to see how far we will go over the next 10 years!
